On March 17 - 19, 2022, the Faculty of Economics, St. Petersburg University, held the XIX Annual International Conference“Evolution of International Trading System: Prospects and Challenges”

The conference was aimed at exploring the following issues:

On October 24 - 26, 2019, the Faculty of Economics, St. Petersburg State University, held the Annual International Conference “Evolution of International Trading System: Prospects and Challenges”.

The conference explored the following issues:

  • Modern trends of international trade and trade policies
  • Modern regional economic integration
  • Global energy markets development
  • Foreign direct investments and multinational enterprises
  • International labour migration: new trends
  • Financial aspects of international trading system development
  • China's "Belt & Road Initiative": opportunities and challenges for Russia and EU countries
  • Islamic economy development amid international trading system transformation
  • Joint session of the Japanese Society for Comparative Economic Studies and the Laboratory of Asian Economic Studies "Comparative Economic Studies in Russia and East Asia"

The event was held at the Faculty of Economics, St.Petersburg State University, St.Petersburg, Tavricheskaya str. 21. The conference was attended by over 100 scientists from different regions of Russia and foreign countries: Brazil, Germany, Switzerland, Slovakia, China, Vietnam, Japan, as well as government officials, employees of international economic organizations, business community representatives.

On October 26 - 27, 2017, the Department of World Economy, St. Petersburg State University, held the Annual International Conference “Evolution of International Trading System: Prospects and Challenges”.
The conference has explored the following issues:

  • Modern trends of international trade and trade policies
  • International trade system development: financial aspects
  • Regional economic integration at the present stage
  • Tax aspects of international trading system development
  • International labor migration: yesterday, today, tomorrow.
  • Problems and prospects of Russian-Japanese economic collaboration
  • Ownership strategy and competitive advantages of emerging market firms

The conference was attended by more than 100 scientists from different regions of Russia and foreign countries: Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, China, Slovakia, Ukraine, Finland, France, Switzerland and Japan.

On October 20 - 22, 2016, the Faculty of Economics, St. Petersburg State University, has held the Annual International Conference “Evolution of International Trading System: Prospects and Challenges”.
The Department of World Economy of SPSU maintains the tradition of holding international conferences to discuss key issues of the world trade and interconnections between national economies. The conference has explored the following issues:

  • Regionalism: new trends
  • Foreign direct investments and multinational enterprises
  • Migration crisi in Europe: challenges for national and international regulators
  • Developed and developing countries in international trading system
  • Financial aspects of the international trading system development
  • Import substitution in Russia: results, problems and prospects
  • S. Tylpanov's scientific school: contribution to the theory of international political economy

The conference was attended by more than 100 scientists from different regions of Russia and foreign countries: Australia, Brazil, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Italy, Slovakia, Ukraine, Finland, France, Switzerland and Japan, as well as employees of government institutions and members of international economic organizations. On October 29 - 30, 2015, the Faculty of Economics, St. Petersburg State University, has held the Annual International Conference “Evolution of International Trading System: Prospects and Challenges”.
During the work of the conference the following problems were actively discussed:

  • Trade remedies in the system of the WTO: recent experience.
  • International Trade: key developments.
  • Transnational companies in the system of international FDI flows.
  • International labor migration: modern trends and challenges.
  • Emerging powers in international trading system.

On October 9 - 10, 2014, the Faculty of Economics, St. Petersburg State University, has held the Annual International Conference “Evolution of International Trading System: Prospects and Challenges”.
The Department of World Economy of SPSU maintains the tradition of holding international conferences to discuss key issues of the international economic relations. The following urgent issues were debated during the work of the conference:

  • Trade remedies in WTO system: contemporary trends.
  • National economies in international trading system.
  • Regionalization in ХХI century: opportunities and threats
  • Actual problems of contemporary international economic relations development

2013

On October, 31- November 01, 2013, the Faculty of Economics, St. Petersburg State University, held the International Conference “Evolution of International Trading System: Prospects and Challenges”.

International conference «Evolution of the International Trading System: Prospects and Challenges – 2013» in SPBU gathered leading scholars from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Latvia, Bulgaria, Brazil, Germany, Switzerland and the USA.

The Department of World Economy of SPBU maintains the tradition of holding international conferences to discuss some key problems faced by individual national economies, various groups of countries and the whole international community with respect to controversial developments in global commerce. Keynote speaker Carlos Primo Braga (Professor of International Political Economy and Director of the Evian Group@IMD, former Acting Vice President and Corporate Secretary of the World Bank Group) provided comprehensive insight into expansion of global value chains as well as existing scenarios for Bali Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization.

Discussion continued at the plenary and panel sessions. Distinguish foreign academics (Thomas Cottier, Managing Director, World Trade Institute, University of Berne; David G. Tarr, Consultant and former Lead Economist with the World Bank; Kent Jones, Dr., Professor, Babson college, Wellesley, USA; Kerstin Pezoldt, Dr., Professor, Ilmenau University of Technology, Germany; Anja Geigenmuller, Dr., Professor, Ilmenau University of Technology, Germany, and some others); representatives of international economic organizations (Marc Auboin Counsellor, Economic Research, WTO; Vladislav Shuvalov Senior officer, United Nations Office at Geneva, Switzerland); well recognized Russian experts (Tatiana Isachenko, Professor, MGIMO, Moscow; Natalia Kuznetsova, Professor, SPSU; Nikita Lomagin, Professor, SPSU; Sergei Riazantsev, Professor, Corresponding member of the RAS, Institute of Social-Political Research of the RAS, Moscow; Sergei Sutyrin, Professor, Head of the Department of World Economy, SPSU; Evgeny Vinokurov, Director of Centre for Integration Studies at the Eurasian Development Bank and others) presented their views on variety of significant issues. Among them in particular were revealed and possible repercussions of Russia’s accession to the WTO; controversial relationship between multilateralism and regionalism; feasible opportunities to improve performance of contemporary international trading system; role of international economic organizations in securing sustainable global governance.

2012

On October, 11-12, 2012, the Faculty of Economics, St. Petersburg State University, held the International Conference “Evolution of International Trading System: Prospects and Challenges”.

In the modern globalized world, trade plays an increasingly important role for state interactions. In the 21st century, international trading system faces new challenges such as slowdown of the global economy, murky protectionism in trade policy and development of regional integration, difficulty of global governance and complexity of the WTO negotiations. These and many other questions on contemporary trends in international trade were discussed at the conference.

2011

In October 13-14, 2011 the Economic Faculty, St. Petersburg State University, organised the International Conference “Economic theory and commercial performance: global challenges” which is being held in honor of the 110th anniversary of the birth of Professor Sergei Tjulpanov.

Among other things, this conference aims at exploring the following issues:

  • Contemporary international trading system
  • Concepts of transition: limits of applicability
  • Regional and national economic systems under globalization
  • Global governance
  • Post-crisis imperatives in the development of the global financial system
  • Evolution of energy security models in the 21st century

Economic theory and commercial performance: global challenges. The proceedings of the International conference, St. Petersburg, 2012

Due to technical reasons, the report of Dermanov V.K. on ‘Economic system: growth or development’wasn’t included in the conference proceedings. However, this research is of considerable interest from the perspective of economic sciences. The report is available on our site. Our sincere apology to the author!

The conference "COMPETITION AS A FACTOR OF ECONOMIC GROWTH ANDDEVELOPMENT" was held at the Economic Faculty of St Petersburg State University on 22 of April 2011. The Department of World Economy led a section "International Competition: Specifity, Strategies, Facilitating Mechanism".

The conference is traditionally attended by students, postgraduates and young scientists from Saint Petersburg State University, as well as other Russian (Saint Petersburg State University of Economics andFinance, Saint Petersburg State Polytechnical University, North-Caucasus Academy of Public Administration, Yaroslavl State Technical University) and foreign universities (University of ULM, Trier University of Applied Science, Siedlce University of Natural Sciences and Humanities).

At the end of the conference were awarded the best speakers of the Conference by secret ballot. Thus, winners are following persons:

  • Diploma I degree - Karina Shishkova and Olga Vyatkina (master students of Department of Economics of St Petersburg State University);
  • Diploma II degree - Anna Pienkosz, Jolanta Brodowska-Szewczuk(University of Sciences and Humanities Siedltsa, Poland), Yulia Mikhailova (student of International Relations Faculty St. Petersburg State University);

2010

On October, 14-15, 2010 was held the International conference dedicated to the 70-anniversary of the Faculty of Economics, St. Petersburg State University: «Economic Modernization: Problems and Prospects».

On October, 14, Dr. Rufus Yerxa (General Director Deputy, WTO) launched the WTO Chairs Programme at St. Petersburg State University. For more information about the WTO Chair please click here...

On October, 15, Department of World Economy organized two panels: "Contemporary International Trading System: Challenges of Modernization" and "International Dimensions of Economic Modernization".

2008

On the 25th of April, 2008, by our Department was held the International Conference “Contemporary Global Economy: Trends and Prospects”.

The Conference was opened by welcoming words and congratulations on the anniversary of the Department by: the representative of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg E.D.Beliakova, the Deputy Dean for External Relations of the Faculty of Economics Prof. Vjacheslav Shavshukov, the Rector of Technical University of Ilmenau (Germany) Prof. Peter Scharff, and the representative of Pan-European Institute (Turku, Finland) Dr. Peter Zashev.

In honour of the 25th anniversary of the International Economic Relations Department in Leningrad State University were lots of congratulations from: the Head of the Trade Negotiations Department of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Russia M.Y.Medvedkov, the Vice-President of the Centre of Russian National Glory Z.G.Medoev, the Minister of the Embassy of Rrepublic of Korea Pack Chon Su, the Dean of the Faculty of International Economic Relations of MGIMO Prof. A.V.Holopov and the Head of the Department of International Economic Relations MGIMO I.N.Platonova, the Director of the Centre of Business Research and Development, Pan-European Institute (Turku, Finland) Kari Liuhto, and the representatives of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of Russian Academy of Science.

In the conference participated both the economists from different Russian cities and the ones from the UK, Germany, Canada, China, Cyprus, Korea, France, Finland, and Switzerland. The reports were held by such speakers as I.S.Korolev, the Deputy Director of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations, M.Smeets, the counselor of the WTO, A.P.Portanskii, the Chief of Russia’s WTO accession’s information agency, and V.A.Shliamin, Trade representative of Russia in Finland.
