The WTO Chairs project
The WTO Chairs Programme (WCP) aims to support and promote trade-related academic activities by universities and research institutions in developing and least-developed countries. Academic institutions awarded WTO Chairs receive support in the following areas: course preparation, teaching, research and outreach activities. The Chairs were selected through a competitive bidding process. Our team represented by the Department of World Economy and Department of Economic Cybernetics of the Faculty of Economics, St. Petersburg State University was in the first phase of institutions that received this status in 2010.
The WCP assists national academic institutions in providing the society with a deeper understanding of trade policy issues. Through analytical input into the formulation and implementation of trade policy, the WCP helps strengthen the participation of the beneficiary countries in international trade.
The WCP streamlines academic cooperation activities of the WTO by providing dedicated support to beneficiary institutions in their specific priority areas in the field of trade policy, international trade, international relations and international economic law. The WCP will remain engaged in such programmes to the extent feasible and desired by the institutions concerned. The programme was extended to other institutions (Phase II) and promotes an ongoing network among universities and individuals associated with the programme in both developed and developing countries.
